Cognitive Behavioural Coaching - a route to enhanced workplace performance and happier, healthier people.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Coaching?

Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) brings together the practice of coaching with the concepts and methods underlying cognitive behavioural psychology.  It works on the premise that how you think impacts how you feel – and that how you feel impacts on your behaviour and the actions you take. The focus of Cognitive Behavioural Coaching is to identify unhelpful thought processes and instead to develop constructive thoughts and behaviours to support positive actions towards identified goals and increased personal performance.

What are the benefits?

Cognitive Behavioural Coaching helps our clients to understand the interrelation between their cognition, emotional states, behaviour and physiology and to work at all levels to help solve problems and develop solutions to challenging situations.  Because of its speed and efficacy, many people are now using CBC in the workplace to enhance their performance by challenging limiting beliefs and behaviours and enabling them to move forward into situations they may not have dared to enter before. Cognitive Behavioural Coaching helps our clients to develop greater self-awareness, flexibility, satisfaction, emotional resilience and personal impact. It also helps clients to be more accepting of themselves and embrace their authenticity.

How does it work?

Cognitive Behavioural Coaching is used within a one-to-one coaching process.  During the coaching sessions we help our clients to look closely at how and what they think and their beliefs.  We then ask them to look at how these thoughts and beliefs influence their emotional states, behaviours and physiology.  We help our clients look at their thinking errors – even the most logical person has very illogical thoughts sometimes!. There is a psycho-educative aspect too which means that we share knowledge, models and methods with you, helping you to become your own coach in time.

What are its origins?

The principles of Cognitive Behavioural Coaching were developed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) whose founders were Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis.  The focus of CBT is on treating people with disorders.  In CBC, we shift the focus towards helping people develop and achieve their goals.  The focus of CBC is personal and professional development and using positive psychology  to help people build on existing authentic strengths and to live happier, more productive lives.
